Camera control in the security industry - how simple electronic components help keep us safe.

  03/07/2019

The global security market is growing fast -  opening up new markets to suppliers like Nexus partner Ruffy, whose high-quality electronic components help drive the securest of systems.

The number of ways in which cameras are used to make society more secure is growing - such as facial detection cameras to verify identity at airports, and number plate recognition for tracking stolen cars.

And as new venues - including schools and small-medium businesses - come on board, research  undertaken by the consultancy Future Market Insights estimates the global physical security equipment market will experience “staggering growth” over the next few years, reaching nearly $64 billion by the end of 2022.

Nexus supplier Ruffy’s products are popular in various security applications - computer and communications security, drones, monitoring equipment, video surveillance, and vehicle protection systems.

And it has a range of components that help drive the PTZ camera systems which used in primarily in surveillance.

PTZ is an abbreviation - for pan, tilt, zoom. These highly mobile cameras are capable of remote directional and zoom control, and can direct attention to suspicious events.

Using master cameras to monitor a wide area, the PTZ cameras can be used to focus in on suspicious movements, panning and tilting in order to follow these movements as they progress. With motors to physically adjust the camera’s aim and zoom, they can be operated via remote control by uses, or programmed to scan across an area as ‘guards’.

PTZ cameras can cover a very large area - tilting up and down, and rotating through up to 360 degrees. And unlike VPTZ (virtual, or digital, PTZ cameras), they use optical zooming, so the image quality is not affected by zooming in. This is an obvious advantage in security settings where a clear image - of a face or number plate - is required.

Among the PTZ camera control solutions from Ruffy:

MFD Series
The MFD series is a USB Desktop 3 Axis camera controller with up to 8 buttons. This is a great solution for PTZ systems, whether there is a single camera or a multiple set. It offers ambidextrous precision control. It has standard Human Interface Device Firmware.

HED series

Another USB Desktop 3 Axis camera controller, this time with up to 12 buttons. It has fully assignable axes and buttons, and standard HID firmware.

HE1 Series

This fingertip precision, multi-axis Hall Effect joystick has over 20 joystick handle options to choose from as well as a variety of mounting options. It’s ideal for camera monitoring systems, and is available with analog or USB (Human Interface Device) electrical output.

HE2 Series
The HE2 uses the same platform as the HE1 series, but in a fully dust and water sealed, rugged package. It supports PTZ functions with or without 1-2 integrated push buttons.

TS2 Series
For systems where space is at a premium, the TS2 is the world's smallest industrial 2 Axis Hall Effect joystick. For remote control applications where precision can’t be compromised despite limited space, this is ideal. It has multiple actuator options, is fully panel sealed against dust and water, and is and available with standard pre-programmed analog electrical output.
